Goodie Gum Drops ... these are ornaments

I just love a candy land theme to the Christmas decorating.  I'm not entirely sure why this is a great combination - other than the festive period is often a time of lots of lovely sweets and treats - but it puts me in mind of childhood and of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Are you singing along with me to "toot sweets"?  Ah, I digress.  See what happens when I think of childhood christmas fantasies.

Gum Drop Ornaments at FakeCupcakeCreations

There are several popular styles for ornaments in a Candy Land Christmas concept; cupcakes, candies, etc. and of course loads of methods and materials of production.  I've just seen a new-for-me concept and I think it's utterly brilliant.  The gum drop ornament.  I love gum drops and think they'd look fab on a tree.  Sparkly and pretty colours, what more could you want?

Painted Glass Balls with Diamond Gem Embellishments

I'm working to catch up with my craft photography for posting, and top of the agenda for this weekend is the painted glass Christmas balls.  They're 'painted' on the inside by swirling paint inside and it's super fun to see all the different patterns that it will make.  It's like those twirling paint art works - inside a Christmas ball.

Different from every angle, they're a lovely addition to the Christmas tree. I hadn't made any in ages, after making tons of them a few decades ago, but when I came across these slightly larger versions embellished with silver gem stones I just couldn't resist.

Simple and easy to make, the only thing is you'll need ample space to set them out for occasional rotating while they completely dry.  I use plastic or styrofoam cups for the balls to sit in while the paint drips out, and it's a good idea to cover the surface below for any spills.

Christmas T-Shirt

 

I painted this T-shirt last year.  While I have done a lot of Disney freehand over the years, this comes from a Loony Toons transfer book that I probably bought when I was in high school (some considerable time ago).  Typically, I like to paint on a lighter colour than this bright red, so I thought it needed some white polka dots to make the characters pop. 

Good King Wenceslas and Old World Santa

I painted these large ceramic ornaments for Mum and Dad many years ago. They are similar in size and sit together at opposite ends of the dining room buffet. They were painted several years apart so it was interesting to see them together as an example of one with 'antiquing' effect and one without.

Memory Lane Ornaments Revisited

The back of these painted ceramic ornaments say "Jane '91" which means they are over twenty years old! Can you believe it?

Painted Glass Balls

Painted Glass Balls on my wire Christmas Tree

This is a fun little ornament you can make in a variety of styles just by experimenting with colour combinations. They take very little work, you'll just need space to lay them out for a while (days) to dry. Small yoghurt containers or styrofoam cups which you can cut down to size are excellent for draining the paint while the ornament dries.
