<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7paVcjXucXFrSOSCUdzbsTWxrR1ullA8e_UJypvrmaI2l0kSqZnJqKtoeTnuf-RjrcymXMA4Del0rrF0nvTHyMC93m6OijW-8IUAC-x38ye0Ov0BqVVZBza1MR39YeW8qNw-iPCXS3j8/s1600/white+blue+pink+016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7paVcjXucXFrSOSCUdzbsTWxrR1ullA8e_UJypvrmaI2l0kSqZnJqKtoeTnuf-RjrcymXMA4Del0rrF0nvTHyMC93m6OijW-8IUAC-x38ye0Ov0BqVVZBza1MR39YeW8qNw-iPCXS3j8/s400/white+blue+pink+016.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to setting up my sample trees to organize my ornaments for sale on my <a href="http://christmasismagical.net/" target="_blank">Etsy Christmas Shop</a> by theme, I've been using the opportunity of all these trees around me to photograph my garland more 'in situ'. I think it shows it off nicely, and the 2 1/2 foot trees make it relatively easy to prep for a photo shoot.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv2PVp8wV-xc_iy4SEH5yGaJTqf3DuRD_5-eig1OS5VWs9aD_iYTAWn-vdCbElbLQ7ZSGSefllDNLR7LfKJlIa7De3o-DBB5FvffWVsnmOgC-tc4lVvryE8ZfZr2luOcDqO5vF2kuKJFY/s1600/white+blue+pink+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv2PVp8wV-xc_iy4SEH5yGaJTqf3DuRD_5-eig1OS5VWs9aD_iYTAWn-vdCbElbLQ7ZSGSefllDNLR7LfKJlIa7De3o-DBB5FvffWVsnmOgC-tc4lVvryE8ZfZr2luOcDqO5vF2kuKJFY/s400/white+blue+pink+014.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the crochet beaded garland and have been experimenting and adding variations of style to the offering. Now I have to get busy making quantities of all these styles as they are proving very popular.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP1WyF6XNqg7ZzNVYyJQxoncj8e6PpvSwA4hj6m_kgu5AiomKeOsGghtvhIaXyPQMshMHylfU1bRWOSmiX7uVG2JPn0SF-XO8cyHG3F4BZk8ZVyVlolTMpuZ138fGfQ1w3le9hHlKF71E/s1600/garland+pink+purple+028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP1WyF6XNqg7ZzNVYyJQxoncj8e6PpvSwA4hj6m_kgu5AiomKeOsGghtvhIaXyPQMshMHylfU1bRWOSmiX7uVG2JPn0SF-XO8cyHG3F4BZk8ZVyVlolTMpuZ138fGfQ1w3le9hHlKF71E/s400/garland+pink+purple+028.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have had this 'eyelash' faux fur yarn on one of my trees for a few years - the red and white. Every year Mum admires it which is significant as we don't have precisely the same style of decorating and adornment. While there are huge parallels, as I was influenced very positively with my youthful holiday memories, Mum is much more elegant than me. Mum is not a glitter freak.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqrgsmj2tuTPEmKBaAniNM2VIGc-7xoSCUrifgxaErwB3UOvhjMzSRm2bWcVAUd5ntAt8SA8LKvpqxbngv44H6np6BXp_3NMz8C0JRHi35fjIBkamAXVFBi0Ih2ce6hBnaQ7JK1hXv9_k/s1600/garland+silver+pink+045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqrgsmj2tuTPEmKBaAniNM2VIGc-7xoSCUrifgxaErwB3UOvhjMzSRm2bWcVAUd5ntAt8SA8LKvpqxbngv44H6np6BXp_3NMz8C0JRHi35fjIBkamAXVFBi0Ih2ce6hBnaQ7JK1hXv9_k/s400/garland+silver+pink+045.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Working up a variety of styles and getting them photographed for posting for sale I now can offer with the fuzzy-wintery-whitey eyelash yarn; red, green, blue, pink and purple. I like them all, and would a love a tree with one of each on it as I've always got a multi-coloured tree for my memory and special treasure ornaments, which are all colours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVzSx8ZfJlV6bhsGDbdsRz88NhXPLy_rkYcLrukEK09FPFdTUAcsrlhTv-CjnRTg8Szok-e7fUQp5Ya7Bz9DBxLatedEoTvb2AZykypmJuJzxFVHJGhxt1-JY_eDJ1FVE2jJbkzwAg6mA/s1600/garland+silver+pink+020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVzSx8ZfJlV6bhsGDbdsRz88NhXPLy_rkYcLrukEK09FPFdTUAcsrlhTv-CjnRTg8Szok-e7fUQp5Ya7Bz9DBxLatedEoTvb2AZykypmJuJzxFVHJGhxt1-JY_eDJ1FVE2jJbkzwAg6mA/s400/garland+silver+pink+020.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
If you're a crafter and want to make your own, with this eyelash yarn I find best results with 2.5 crochet hook, and while both round and oval beads are nice, I prefer the oval ones. Single chain between each bead with 2-3 chains in between each. Or, whatever variation of this you fancy.<br />
<br />

<br />
I work in 9ft lengths and find that most ideal for a variety of purposes,and less fussy than longer lengths for a big tree. For more ideas see my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/ChristmasisMagical?section_id=17291199" target="_blank">Garland & Tree Skirts Section</a> in the shop.<br />

<br />
Goodness gracious, can you believe the date? I can't fathom how December has become so close all of a sudden, and I seem to have lost my Christmas production mojo at a rather peculiar time. I blame the leaves - it's been a lot of raking. I heard my first Christmas Carol though yesterday, so no more messing about, it's time to get back into Christmas preparations. Here we go.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8D9KYS8zXlNIUfKUi3Vj5bDNxCy1gYzTfLAlhaRq7u2AKVRoAPiJSvwQyfM8DjsQgRcJpSbadGZd-Dix94UsHVk6156wxRc-0aTX9OgHB5B_q-WQk8Kx-FDwuLcPsCHmAZPluouq5If8/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8D9KYS8zXlNIUfKUi3Vj5bDNxCy1gYzTfLAlhaRq7u2AKVRoAPiJSvwQyfM8DjsQgRcJpSbadGZd-Dix94UsHVk6156wxRc-0aTX9OgHB5B_q-WQk8Kx-FDwuLcPsCHmAZPluouq5If8/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I visited my local dollar store and cleared the shelves of mini-trees as soon as they came out, for I had a plan. The kind folks at Dollarama were all an alert for them for me as I am able to give them my "I'm looking for " list and they're great at keeping an eye out. I'm there a lot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQtEaxdZscMrjE2DXMBh_Qj4547G9PxRpbtXew_T_U-7ZAaE-Sv13gRHh_chr9RDJU7FuOAoMVSzye8TXm43UPu9XEYAN_JJMgbHX7xU-K2GC7NAVjke6tsP9OQpXxjBBxf5mXhg9ED2M/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQtEaxdZscMrjE2DXMBh_Qj4547G9PxRpbtXew_T_U-7ZAaE-Sv13gRHh_chr9RDJU7FuOAoMVSzye8TXm43UPu9XEYAN_JJMgbHX7xU-K2GC7NAVjke6tsP9OQpXxjBBxf5mXhg9ED2M/s400/005.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So the plan was/is to create different scheme trees of my ornaments on Etsy. I have so many different things that it's difficult, even for me, to get a sense of what I actually have and what goes with what etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-y_S4YXS51_BvOGtH6re50UXuKTQvpQ3xBAA8WQ95b_e3sUEYkvdu6oC4anp-Ihy_AH0LAOm_-uxg_QPBLJlGHNtqcJkQCRq5MnPcH_2cQMfsAxtemV4j6dzEl_X_Xmrz1OvNL7nL3Mg/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-y_S4YXS51_BvOGtH6re50UXuKTQvpQ3xBAA8WQ95b_e3sUEYkvdu6oC4anp-Ihy_AH0LAOm_-uxg_QPBLJlGHNtqcJkQCRq5MnPcH_2cQMfsAxtemV4j6dzEl_X_Xmrz1OvNL7nL3Mg/s400/006.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I recently began the concept of a sample tree but that was just silly - worked out almost perfectly with 10 trees. We have a purple one, pale pink one, olde world Christmas one, burgundy/gold one, silver and navy one, pale pink one, bright pink one, turquoise one, white and clear one, traditional Chrismas red one and Holly Jolly Seussical one .... phew.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6KMMaztHUC5XMHd-AO24vXSpvPU2FUFWkXuQcpIY1iHKMNCFLyKk6ddkJo9QHDy0UvAygLL_C2jzdeIxAupR5P3DIOQB1COOewLtUmbpIGsKYNcjO2FuKG7pcNj5rii0XxWGVP9Ne7OA/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6KMMaztHUC5XMHd-AO24vXSpvPU2FUFWkXuQcpIY1iHKMNCFLyKk6ddkJo9QHDy0UvAygLL_C2jzdeIxAupR5P3DIOQB1COOewLtUmbpIGsKYNcjO2FuKG7pcNj5rii0XxWGVP9Ne7OA/s400/008.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And believe me, there is SOOOO much more that isn't on Etsy, so beginning to organize at least this part of it feels good. Tree toppers and tree skirts needed next. Off we go!MagicalJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13411091079027432099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3301109282790072374.post-17773748721973877982015-10-27T10:42:00.001-07:002015-10-27T10:42:15.166-07:00Countdown<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
While we were busy raking leaves ...this happened! Time to get back in crafting mode!<br />

<br />
I've been working on Christmas cards and gift tags lately - while the myriad paper crafting supplies are out - as it won't be long before they're needed. I have so many things/possibilities that my sanity plan is to focus on one thing at a time and try my best not to get distracted. In this case the focus item is my supply of square cards, and the goal is to develop a few standard templates for different colour/theme variations.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW_M_mEEuTd2W-RTRQzWLj9c4yBmz0JLgJrAD7PoSC26xcc1R0QUzw92sxZuz3eii-m5P3YoADO-9hGI3L9b4-ZaRy9V8VUrvhu4co-MDiyLkRJz6jXxWnMzn6xhl83zVZihGclKtwfKw/s1600/cards+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW_M_mEEuTd2W-RTRQzWLj9c4yBmz0JLgJrAD7PoSC26xcc1R0QUzw92sxZuz3eii-m5P3YoADO-9hGI3L9b4-ZaRy9V8VUrvhu4co-MDiyLkRJz6jXxWnMzn6xhl83zVZihGclKtwfKw/s400/cards+003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the first 'template' I've come up with - a circle within a rectangle within a square. You wouldn't believe how many variations and tiny adjustments I tried before I was happy with the result but now I am pleased.<br />
<br />
I have been saving the sparkle red/white/pink candy cane paper as it is one of my faves, and here it is the inspiration. I've picked up the sparkle with an inset of glitter paper and enhanced it with a long strip of deep red sparkly gems. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Y82t3iB9cGOaPvNMOd7uvO_Fvjbcvo8IY1BRGRRxY1dnrE3-eQSJW6uCQD-8gXCI7F5ESevDXcxlb6tSGP1dGD9GIueMiN-60S90Ahfo_9Rz9e1W3b_nRjzoPtplfhbb0GRlgzDvIXQ/s1600/cards+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Y82t3iB9cGOaPvNMOd7uvO_Fvjbcvo8IY1BRGRRxY1dnrE3-eQSJW6uCQD-8gXCI7F5ESevDXcxlb6tSGP1dGD9GIueMiN-60S90Ahfo_9Rz9e1W3b_nRjzoPtplfhbb0GRlgzDvIXQ/s400/cards+011.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The focal item is a bright white snowflake - one of my new die cuts that I just love - and it is set in a circle of red, red/pink polka dot christmas card stock and bright white scalloped circle. The snowflake is attached with a raised adhesive dot to give it more texture, and a gem in the center for the final touch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBKKx4X5INOHbKwltk0Ta93rodY7td1hOtZ8IRobUMGMvoEpzyMGXxPzR3F9P_VZBgoj6iCYtwFsuMkh_4nNZeX3Usy3rVzA0P10uAHap-D9VKYrfnbB5j6m-UlnzthHqQNmJgupdKwx8/s1600/cards+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBKKx4X5INOHbKwltk0Ta93rodY7td1hOtZ8IRobUMGMvoEpzyMGXxPzR3F9P_VZBgoj6iCYtwFsuMkh_4nNZeX3Usy3rVzA0P10uAHap-D9VKYrfnbB5j6m-UlnzthHqQNmJgupdKwx8/s400/cards+007.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The cards that I am using are 14.5 cm square (5 3/4") and these are the dimensions for this template.<br />
<br />
Backing plate: Red Card stock 14 cm2, Christmas Card Stock with Sparkle 13.5 cm2<br />
Inset: White card stock 10 x 11.5 cm, dark red card stock 9.5 x 11 cm, glitter card stock 9 x 9.5<br />
Focal Element: 3.5" white scallop circle, 3" red card stock circle, 2.5" christmas patterned stock<br />
Embellishments: 2.5" die cut snowflake, gems strip of 14 + 1 for center of snowflake<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
I recently treated myself to some new die cut punches in a Christmas theme like these lovely forest version Christmas trees. They are a perfect embellishment for these lovely craft tags that I found.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDoF3_tHwF8a0R__FGw47GN5Cu9-LULgGLOb9DG_k_1R8qHKYsOw2lr4B18zlzoYmrGqIlQU7QGnP7s5ywEskZj1qILUnTg_LIG9_l9QDroluq8iiepJNa333lJ_WUfJW3oQXVs8n19L4/s1600/tags+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDoF3_tHwF8a0R__FGw47GN5Cu9-LULgGLOb9DG_k_1R8qHKYsOw2lr4B18zlzoYmrGqIlQU7QGnP7s5ywEskZj1qILUnTg_LIG9_l9QDroluq8iiepJNa333lJ_WUfJW3oQXVs8n19L4/s400/tags+004.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The first thing I do is to attach a backing of white card stock. This gives the tag better structure, and is also a lot nicer for your to/from or holiday greeting. The trees are punched from a nice glitter stock that doesn't shed it's glitter - so much better to work with! - and I've attached them with thick raised dots which gives it a nice dimension.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjldB8fWV6ZGxvL0vyv_5Et5cYn2_0BmTiQvkrCRyXiuNC46D061I2Tzxx9kOjaxAJwuFM7vCG2Alhvg3eXHyLeEkioDFi-PeceC1A8VeJJkD0VXZzAwiKy0auG3gYVhc-1Rq1Ur4W_Z3I/s1600/tags+022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjldB8fWV6ZGxvL0vyv_5Et5cYn2_0BmTiQvkrCRyXiuNC46D061I2Tzxx9kOjaxAJwuFM7vCG2Alhvg3eXHyLeEkioDFi-PeceC1A8VeJJkD0VXZzAwiKy0auG3gYVhc-1Rq1Ur4W_Z3I/s400/tags+022.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Layers of coordinating card stock and card stock Christmas papers with and a row of sparkly gems underneath complete the front, and embroidery floss completes the tag..<br />
<br />

<br />
I have seen so many cute ideas for holiday entertaining food that take themes OTT - which I'm all about, for sure when it comes to Christmas. Themes are cool. So many cute ideas, in fact, that when I try to find one that I have in mind I struggle to locate it, and then I become insanely distracted by more great ideas as I search through my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/hohoholiday/christmas-treats/" target="_blank"><b>Pinterest boards</b></a> and etc. and then ... I have fallen down the rabbit hole, or Santa's chimney, as it were. What <i>is</i> this <i>organized</i> thing of which they speak? I try though, I do try. So I thought, hey, while I'm trying to get organized, why don't I share. <br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>These are some of my favourite ideas, as I come across them, that I would really like to try, and how they might work together. If you've tried any of these ideas it would be great to have your input. So lets begin on the subject of Christmas food, yummmm.... and let's begin with sweet treats with a winter forest theme.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://sweetsimplestuffdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/peanut-butter-cup-christmas-tree.jpg?w=560" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://sweetsimplestuffdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/peanut-butter-cup-christmas-tree.jpg?w=560" height="353" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It all started with the Peanut Butter Christmas Trees. I really want one right now. Aren't they adorable and would be so much fun to assemble and decorate. I'm sure kids would love to make these and the sky's the limit for embellishing with all sorts of candy ideas, or simple and elegant like these. You could use the concept to decorate the top of a cake or a cupcake or as a sweet treat in itself. I think they would make a magical display interspersed with marshmallow snowmen cupcakes and candy cane marshmallows. A veritable feast of winter wonderland.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://sweetsimplestuff.com/2012/12/03/peanut-butter-christmas-trees-giveaway-winner-announced/" target="_blank"><b>Sweet Simple Stuff</b></a> has the most wonderful posts on Peanut Butter Cup trees with fabulous photos and step by step instructions. I like entertaining ideas that are more about assembly than cooking/baking so this is a real winner. I might suggest though that you double the amount of peanut butter cups you need in case some accidentally fall into your mouth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blogassets.catchmyparty-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/mashmallow-snowman-cupcake-diy-72A-580x386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://blogassets.catchmyparty-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/mashmallow-snowman-cupcake-diy-72A-580x386.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And what would look adorable with a forest of Peanut Butter Cup trees you wonder? Well, how about these fabulous Marshmallow Snowmen Cupcakes from <a href="http://catchmyparty.com/blog/diy-marshmallow-snowman-cupcakes" target="_blank"><b>CatchmyParty.com</b></a>. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blogassets.catchmyparty-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/mashmallow-snowman-cupcake-diy-13A-580x386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://blogassets.catchmyparty-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/mashmallow-snowman-cupcake-diy-13A-580x386.jpg" height="211" width="320" /></a></div>
Again, another wonderful blog find with gorgeous detailed photos for step by step understanding of the process. Doesn't it make you want to run right out and get the supplies to try some? Orange starburst candy for the nose is a superb idea, and what can I say about the hat? Jillian at CatchmyParty is a genius ...that hat is the business! I'm loving the hat.<br />
<br />
When you buy a bag of marshmallows there are always too many - and you're buying two sizes so for sure you'll have too many so this is what you do... to your little winter wonderland theme you can intersperse some candy cane fenceposts, archways, etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/2e/30/c9/2e30c9fa5c89d26029ddaca43fa73778.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/2e/30/c9/2e30c9fa5c89d26029ddaca43fa73778.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
There is no page link with this image on Pinterest, but just crush some candy canes, melt some chocolate, stick a small candy cane in the marhsmallow then dip into the chocolate and then the crushed candy canes. Lay them on waxes paper to set. There, you've used up some of your marshmallows and they're another cute addition to the festive mix.<br />
<br />
Now, do you want to set it all off with more fabulous theme integration? Of course you do, we need more, and here it is ... serve it on a candy platter or individual plates. Jessica at <a href="http://livingchiconthecheap.com/diy-peppermint-plate/" target="_blank"><b>LivingChicontheCheap.com</b></a> will show you how!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://livingchiconthecheap.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/plate4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://livingchiconthecheap.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/plate4.jpg" height="368" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Can't you just picture the children's faces with a peppermint candy platter full of peanut butter christmas trees, marshallow snowmen and candy canes oh my! It would be a perfect way for the elf to arrive into town!<br />

<br />
The leaves are just beginning to fall, but the days are still glorious here so I'm trying to get out and enjoy the lingering warm weather. I know it won't be long until we're all thinking about Christmas though, and the shelves are beginning to include Christmas items, I noticed yesterday, so I can't keep thinking it's summer.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGfN80bMmZBrN9jOe6ET0vbQFnGEmHbm-H7pd5KO-8cY32SGhhDe0mfitDlPZf28EeJ4yg1HP7sd0DuNf-4P8dSYBwdSNjqlUo2Yw3fYKA54KNtkedRR5evcepZGH4PqGKDdBmJdRtAVw/s1600/green4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGfN80bMmZBrN9jOe6ET0vbQFnGEmHbm-H7pd5KO-8cY32SGhhDe0mfitDlPZf28EeJ4yg1HP7sd0DuNf-4P8dSYBwdSNjqlUo2Yw3fYKA54KNtkedRR5evcepZGH4PqGKDdBmJdRtAVw/s400/green4.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm lucky to have a craft room, but I could do with it being more the size of an airplane hanger as I find it difficult to switch between beading projects and paper projects. There's just sooo much stuff to get out and find space for. The wool projects get relegated to a different room entirely.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg_0cIyaZwofipUzHCVvRjVQS6d2eMcLpLgWhERnGqEI1ImpswSeAVGm9QwqhC_mTj2RReiuSw5jrFyx-rYQrOv_PnIf_v99Y-Y41Vz3Hv91qHrCzkcW-nI7FYnq8iaczWmzBkTsV58to/s1600/silver5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg_0cIyaZwofipUzHCVvRjVQS6d2eMcLpLgWhERnGqEI1ImpswSeAVGm9QwqhC_mTj2RReiuSw5jrFyx-rYQrOv_PnIf_v99Y-Y41Vz3Hv91qHrCzkcW-nI7FYnq8iaczWmzBkTsV58to/s400/silver5.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So, in a recent bout of pulling out lots and lots of paper project materials, I've decided to break down the job. I'm starting by making just the "embellishment" components. My thinking is that if I develop a stash of embllishments, to which I can gradually add more components, I can use them for card making or gift tags or cupcake toppers or bag toppers or placecards or ...or ... and! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4wkyaIwqDr7z9yrboeZ1oaX1aLzfs8UJwKKp6dN9nBZqMjuwHSF0QG19BQydUDe_nAZeNz2Ntiiq9pxdE4I6DZIINwnMb8X0Xg1UoUyMVFmlBynX9Sd3kACHZA046LaKdNehS2ifMc3g/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4wkyaIwqDr7z9yrboeZ1oaX1aLzfs8UJwKKp6dN9nBZqMjuwHSF0QG19BQydUDe_nAZeNz2Ntiiq9pxdE4I6DZIINwnMb8X0Xg1UoUyMVFmlBynX9Sd3kACHZA046LaKdNehS2ifMc3g/s400/005.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm trying to focus on one thing at a time and this first focus was on my glitter card stock. Five different colours and three sizes with three styles of snowflakes. For each one, a shiny gem embellishment in the center.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhULHL_DcqWiL-kVXXjkJxjcMTCsmHtlBWsws1ZH-2RxhJ5jml3coL8cmf0swKj_uvQo_HyGkv_lVueYIr2kIhIlMKFhyphenhyphenZMz5V9U8aRa6rN0t7pGa4xxvW1Da3laVtkH_b73Wl-04Zebk/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhULHL_DcqWiL-kVXXjkJxjcMTCsmHtlBWsws1ZH-2RxhJ5jml3coL8cmf0swKj_uvQo_HyGkv_lVueYIr2kIhIlMKFhyphenhyphenZMz5V9U8aRa6rN0t7pGa4xxvW1Da3laVtkH_b73Wl-04Zebk/s400/018.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I like working up the embellishments, putting things together for crafting, and I thought this might be something of interest to the crafty audience on Etsy, so I'm experimenting with selling packages of embellishments - three sizes, by colour. We'll see how things go in this avenue but I know I can always use them up myself. <br />
We get our design inspiration from all over the place and today's assignment was a super fun one for me ... to create a potential small ornament momento for cast members performing Seussical the Musical. Great fun! The starting point for the concept was the shorter version of my button style dangles.<br />

The buttons are so whimsical - and Seussical - in the way they make their lop sided patterns and they look fabulous when hanging because the light shines through in slices emphasizing the interesting shapes.<br />

The brief talked about incorporating black with red and white for a 'Cat in the Hat' styling, and also using a variety of colours. We're all familiar with the graphic Cat in the Hat with his simple and recognizable red and white striped top hat. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNhzIJuFaRyyI-rkd0A1zB8aT4c1-yXNaS9oKNW5348WK4QSEIQXhtyI3OXkkZKXbhXbosfm6ekXzUtklmNrSQxhrFocXr0izVFONqItIx8ibMKetGvFGvmuITqNGUcyIYx-SKbY17r_Q/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNhzIJuFaRyyI-rkd0A1zB8aT4c1-yXNaS9oKNW5348WK4QSEIQXhtyI3OXkkZKXbhXbosfm6ekXzUtklmNrSQxhrFocXr0izVFONqItIx8ibMKetGvFGvmuITqNGUcyIYx-SKbY17r_Q/s400/027.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my dangle ornament version of the Cat in the Hat. I used a deep deep matte black bead which I think gives it a more graphic - animated - look, and paired it with bright white opaque beads so they really pop. I think the diamonds give it a nice Broadway bling. Between the buttons in a variety of sizes and shapes I've used an opaque black seed bead to work with the focal black bead that has almost a suede finish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6PmUkV8GJ6Qfku783z1wj8q_YexJJrdDbe6GIWLI7cEMmOitN5GW2hSXGwSPzxAvsNEASIj53XRjI4-4ieujbxRH63Ksi7F-hKN2nqbw0kNgqsyKASgYK7jWHv1T03CiM1LiCcOYQgz8/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6PmUkV8GJ6Qfku783z1wj8q_YexJJrdDbe6GIWLI7cEMmOitN5GW2hSXGwSPzxAvsNEASIj53XRjI4-4ieujbxRH63Ksi7F-hKN2nqbw0kNgqsyKASgYK7jWHv1T03CiM1LiCcOYQgz8/s400/001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The tiny seed beads that form the hook and from where the diamond dangles are a dark multi-colour shimmer. It's really difficult to get a good picture but when you look closely you seen greens and blues and purples and golds. Kind of like an oil slick rainbow, but in a good way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7cg1g5K16zTzWLChqkm-7k-otwKP0szqqUuoyQnct-RBrN4IQJXFMg-mWzkLpCwBMLSBjrGqA6pFxRsQHvhPWQP6xRaWjmPylGLGIS_o2o8Ac_FzU2SoVWAs8AJcf81GVWuFJ44uIhW0/s1600/seussical2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7cg1g5K16zTzWLChqkm-7k-otwKP0szqqUuoyQnct-RBrN4IQJXFMg-mWzkLpCwBMLSBjrGqA6pFxRsQHvhPWQP6xRaWjmPylGLGIS_o2o8Ac_FzU2SoVWAs8AJcf81GVWuFJ44uIhW0/s200/seussical2.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
I looked around on the web because I'm not familiar with the Broadway show, and to get some design cues. Looking at images of the show it's anything but simple graphic. What a visual treat in the costumes, backdrops and set designs. <br />
<br />
Fabulously fun shapes and every colour of the rainbow in it's brightest hues. This show looks like good fun. I decided to add a companion or alternate into the mix with a design that reflects the imagery of the musical.<br />
<br />
This Seussical the Musical version features the same patterning with a mixed variety of bright coloured buttons. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsBqJv6uFWgAJng7alrClfkP6ynjzzrIBrPVpDlAUhsiw4J9EDHtIAIovXtYChucqksVxu1c9rcaBkkhjyFMedWouzajQRvImg7xf6A5cut3rBCH9Q7EN1z-6ctcYJ3oHRCOh9DVn6l90/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsBqJv6uFWgAJng7alrClfkP6ynjzzrIBrPVpDlAUhsiw4J9EDHtIAIovXtYChucqksVxu1c9rcaBkkhjyFMedWouzajQRvImg7xf6A5cut3rBCH9Q7EN1z-6ctcYJ3oHRCOh9DVn6l90/s400/009.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Each ornament has about 33 beads and 5 buttons along with the acrylic diamond pendant and it uses matte black 'pearls' with size 6.0 seed beads in opaque white, size 8.0 seed beads in opaque black and size 10.0 beads in oilslick rainbow. They are beaded on wire ornament hooks and hang approximately 3 1/2".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDUPgryEyGV4fWtx-gWh69_dnZWw-1tcc0GNiN0kXfn2PoJyIgMlQgiq2zkTvAexMJi5zfebVLdyVz8pOOP_0TqRn6_JDZfgB22O7sJMteLOd2v69kwF4NZKrrTtjaDBuhM3h9iuc58KU/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDUPgryEyGV4fWtx-gWh69_dnZWw-1tcc0GNiN0kXfn2PoJyIgMlQgiq2zkTvAexMJi5zfebVLdyVz8pOOP_0TqRn6_JDZfgB22O7sJMteLOd2v69kwF4NZKrrTtjaDBuhM3h9iuc58KU/s400/036.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Together, I like the way the represent the show and they look very cute and whimsical.<br />
<br />
Here's a song from the show (which I listed to while I worked!) ... have a listen, and a lovely day..<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwUhI7harFTQoCiq00OH_tk0oP6fcOPDf6MR0xORbHXqrMh9y7WpEY6ioDFuSWTmLvQ8qul0MHCAEBZoyadSOuolne3M5wBBIDWdCWW_1n1tDUiMKqSe627hISS5WXgrHkTniY5CwWGfc/s1600/058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwUhI7harFTQoCiq00OH_tk0oP6fcOPDf6MR0xORbHXqrMh9y7WpEY6ioDFuSWTmLvQ8qul0MHCAEBZoyadSOuolne3M5wBBIDWdCWW_1n1tDUiMKqSe627hISS5WXgrHkTniY5CwWGfc/s400/058.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've started working on smaller tree skirts. They are just perfect for a 3' or abouts Christmas Tree, which I often use for testing when I'm working on my ornaments. They're such a great size and so pretty on a table top. I've sketched out a number of patterning styles and this is a great way to more quickly test the concept for a larger tree skirt. This smaller size is based on 12 rows and measures approximately 19.5".<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ2g8KYQp2982YySZvGy7RVT1DadwZMIx-dEApYCzeRz8WS-NlwnNVA6w7JOTIA8uAZp1bvlYDI2ziqnO9FdocrIlLHEwKo2uQQp7E_ryXcuHjZH5VYcE1MIzAV7bkLfAZ1AO4I_Txfrs/s1600/057.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ2g8KYQp2982YySZvGy7RVT1DadwZMIx-dEApYCzeRz8WS-NlwnNVA6w7JOTIA8uAZp1bvlYDI2ziqnO9FdocrIlLHEwKo2uQQp7E_ryXcuHjZH5VYcE1MIzAV7bkLfAZ1AO4I_Txfrs/s400/057.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This style has a feature band. In this version the main colour is purple, the feature band is variegated pink/purple/blue and the accent is white. The design is worked using 2 rows main, 1 accent, 3 feature band, 1 accent, 2 main.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjux-H8rU3M3GFmST4tSyr2wHWjf3US0z70XKmVbvcapETJoW4b2RVaCvxLjtqD_JhHGxgD2maLhQ6vXIPA5x_iERk8SuD9VjN1TVFr5PrneqYEPNvWHcw_V5eeMjaBJu9iCz6ZBpd87XQ/s1600/055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjux-H8rU3M3GFmST4tSyr2wHWjf3US0z70XKmVbvcapETJoW4b2RVaCvxLjtqD_JhHGxgD2maLhQ6vXIPA5x_iERk8SuD9VjN1TVFr5PrneqYEPNvWHcw_V5eeMjaBJu9iCz6ZBpd87XQ/s400/055.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The edge is what I really wanted to get to testing - the faux fur sparkle yarn worked in with the worsted. This edge is 1 row worsted, 1 row worsted/faux sparkle worked together, and the edge with picot points in worsted.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitBgUikhcukexE5vu1BHoFyVEidha1ulobdX8cmoDSpRdxTSzfVYyhiPjNiRGk-zrcyjM6hefWYVbp6cRVK9Ka4_w7-ipTLX_RrrpIvTfNdW9flvH0feurSj11Hq_kLDboiaBgvrfKCxY/s1600/059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitBgUikhcukexE5vu1BHoFyVEidha1ulobdX8cmoDSpRdxTSzfVYyhiPjNiRGk-zrcyjM6hefWYVbp6cRVK9Ka4_w7-ipTLX_RrrpIvTfNdW9flvH0feurSj11Hq_kLDboiaBgvrfKCxY/s400/059.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The overall concept looks very pretty and could easily be worked up in a larger version with similar proportions. For the ties, I have come to prefer separate 'strings' worked as 60 chain, rather than attaching ties to both sides as it gives you more flexibility for different types of tree stands and bases. Or perhaps that's just a justification - it seem simpler.<br />

Most of us crafty types can be frequently found perusing pound shops, dollar stores and the various equivalents for bits and pieces that are essential and inspirational in our crafty pursuits. If you can find components there, they'll be at fractions of the regular craft store prices, The craft aisle regularly offers up new and interesting bits to get your creative juices flowing, becoming a fun challenge of "what could I do with this?". <br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Because I have a bit of a sparkle/colour addiction problem, I try to come up with a few potential concepts before loading up my basket with the exciting new items, and on very rare occasions I will even put something back. I feel proud when this happens, and the Dollar Store folks usually take note. Yes, it's rare. But in my defence, I have learned over the years that sometimes you just have to grab them/it as you will someday have the perfect plan/need and you may never see it again. Sigh. Oh please bring back the ... insert long list here.<br />

Something else I have learned, and some of you may not realize, is that craft supplies aren't just in the craft aisle. I have taken apart all sorts of things for reworking. It's a big part of the fun. I love to take things apart and even do it with my own work (though I should probably try to curtail this habit).<br />
<br />
Be sure to check out the jewelry, hair supplies, party section, office supplies for sure but pretty much every aisle is craft aisle. I once found the most fabulous beads in a dog leash. Who'd have thought?<br />

There are several popular styles for ornaments in a Candy Land Christmas concept; cupcakes, candies, etc. and of course loads of methods and materials of production. I've just seen a new-for-me concept and I think it's utterly brilliant. The gum drop ornament. I love gum drops and think they'd look fab on a tree. Sparkly and pretty colours, what more could you want?<br />

<b><u>Styrofoam Shape version 2</u></b><br />
<br />
Another great tutorial for the styrofoam shape version can be found at Janet Smart's <a href="http://janetsmart.blogspot.ca/"><b>Writing in the Blackberry Patch</b></a> blog. Lots of great photos to explain the process to you, and Janet makes both large and small versions. <br />

<br />
Whichever version you choose for the basic construct, you'll need paint and a nice chunky crystal glitter to resemble sugar. And then just your imagination and patience while the paint dries. I know I'm looking forward to trying this out, and I will be definitely looking at the Dollar Store aisle differently next Easter now that I <i>just might</i> know what to do with the various egg shaped craft supplies that show up then. All sorts of possibilities! Super pretty!<br />
<br />
For an easy childrens version you could probably use a cut up egg carton and pipe cleaner for a wire hanger. I'm sure the kids would have fun adding paint and sparklies! <br />
<br />
If you love this idea but don't like to get paint on your fingers, check out Teresa Brown's shop on Etsy for lots of lovely <a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/FakeCupcakeCreations?section_id=10884611&ref=shopsection_leftnav_7" target="_blank"><b>Christmas Candy Land themed ornaments</b></a>. I'll soon be posting more about this shop.<br />

What a lovely week-end we're having. Lovely blue skies and sunshine and just hot enough. After last weeks deluge it is a lovely change. This afternoon I took my beading out to the sunshine on the deck and added the beaded spiral hooks to some of my assembly line 'bases' . Time to do some catch up.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm a little undecided as to whether this assembly line approach is the way to go for me or if I'm better just to finish the job. I suppose the key might be not to let the "to do" pile get overly large, and it does make a nice convenient project for enjoying a little sunshine.</div>

Three more styles are completed, photographed, posted on Etsy and ready to go. Deep Christmas Red Pearls, Chunky Turquoise Blue and White Polka-Dot and I think my favourites of the day, though hard to choose, the Lime Green Seussical Stripe. I particularly like the result with continuing the striping in the beaded hanger. Such fun all of them.</div>

<br />
What an absolutely rubbish weekend it's been - weather wise that is. I was meant to be doing a couple of craft tables at a local event, but as it was outdoors and as the heavens opened and drenched us for two days straight, along with high winds - that didn't materialize. Since we've had so much rain, and the Pride Parade in Toronto this week-end (which the rain didn't seem to dampen), the subject is rainbows.<br />

<br />
I have a new plan for this year's diamond dangle ornament variations and it's basically this - a shorter length on a beaded spiral hook. While the longer icicle style is lovely, I really like this shorter version for a number of reasons. It's a better size on a variety of tree sizes for one thing. The perfect size for a smaller tree but still impactful enough for the largest of trees (you'll just need more!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEITsrZxjwplfpfL0W3A38Xko-CDdykcV9bSpeYSamwOYJoPujhq7q5xACnoJ14HYceyQpbqA0q9Mr1BAum2sjr5EMPgJeScgt7kXnJ9h7wnec4lLZJN4JmIUbkPM6o8f-VT5U_EPyjTk/s1600/rainbow+bling+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEITsrZxjwplfpfL0W3A38Xko-CDdykcV9bSpeYSamwOYJoPujhq7q5xACnoJ14HYceyQpbqA0q9Mr1BAum2sjr5EMPgJeScgt7kXnJ9h7wnec4lLZJN4JmIUbkPM6o8f-VT5U_EPyjTk/s400/rainbow+bling+014.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to that I like the balance of the components. Rather than just the hanger for the ornament, the beaded S hook portion seems to become more a part of the overall ornament and hanging below the tree boughs adds a nice whimsical touch. I love whimsy, as you may have deduced.<br />
<br />
For this Rainbow Bling collection I've combined the sparkly bling beads, large lustrous creamy white pearls, faceted glass crystal clear rondelles all interspersed with silver ball spacers and tiny 10/0 crystal clear seed beads with the acrylic diamond dangles. The S hooks are beaded with a cream wintery white. Tres chic, n'est ce pas?MagicalJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13411091079027432099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3301109282790072374.post-25643477632982194922015-06-06T19:56:00.001-07:002015-06-06T20:15:27.284-07:00Buttons and Crimbo Crackers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This week I came across a new challenge site that I knew I'd love as soon as I saw the name - Crimbo Crackers - utterly brilliant. To make things even better the themed challenges aren't just for cards, which is more up my alley, and the first challenge I'm seeing is of interest to me. Buttons, hooray, I love buttons. Although they make ideal embellishments in card making, I've yet to do that more than once but I have played with lots of things incorporating buttons and Christmas.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Button Whimsies Christmas Ornaments</td></tr>

<br />
One of the first button ornaments I experimented with I called "<a href="http://thehandcraftedchristmas.blogspot.ca/2014/04/button-whimsies-for-christmas-tree.html" target="_blank">Button Whimsies</a>". I used a large focal bead to dangle at the bottom, a snowy white accent pearl to make them pop on the Christmas tree, and up the arm rather than more beads I've incorporated buttons spaced with a seed beads. I love the whimsical look that the variety of sizes gives to the overall effect. The entire thing is beaded on a wire Christmas hook.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM4CGVR2XloaQh4c0xyFcVez9VfOKaY6qkQqCnDCXpv3L_YoGm_q9Ajh-j_1elwMHuLuOm62sSaLJIhLo8tZng5cTuNqka3fZFHf4dgBZf2oxRC6YAlIyYMm7udm6f58H12SyTI43vG9g/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM4CGVR2XloaQh4c0xyFcVez9VfOKaY6qkQqCnDCXpv3L_YoGm_q9Ajh-j_1elwMHuLuOm62sSaLJIhLo8tZng5cTuNqka3fZFHf4dgBZf2oxRC6YAlIyYMm7udm6f58H12SyTI43vG9g/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Button Drop Ornaments</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Another style of ornament I've made is the button drop. These were done on softer wire which I cut to 5" lengths. Up the arm of this version I've used pearls, seed beads and wooden beads because I like the combination of the wood and buttons, and the colours are super vibrant. I've made these in a variety of colours <a href="http://thehandcraftedchristmas.blogspot.ca/2014/04/button-dangles-in-red-and-purple.html" target="_blank">Red and Purple</a> and <a href="http://thehandcraftedchristmas.blogspot.ca/2014/04/bright-pink-buttons.html" target="_blank">Pink</a> as well as green and they look fabulous on the tree.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd9-datnWQYE0fhGKjOL_rl5rm2kn_IlQ_qtg6_zVxgPPsabbCy2NvGvGA-LkxTro8YoVn1wMpHY4tUUhyLtP1hmNJlT_Jn5fInsEv_8gB1E7WAGAm2webrb_sm1kroea9eJVc4lFqJR0/s1600/dd+button+multi+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd9-datnWQYE0fhGKjOL_rl5rm2kn_IlQ_qtg6_zVxgPPsabbCy2NvGvGA-LkxTro8YoVn1wMpHY4tUUhyLtP1hmNJlT_Jn5fInsEv_8gB1E7WAGAm2webrb_sm1kroea9eJVc4lFqJR0/s400/dd+button+multi+4.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Button Diamond Dangles on Beaded Spiral Ornament Hangers</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Another version with this button concept is the longest of the three because I've added a pretty diamond dangle at the bottom and wired the entire thing onto a beaded spiral ornament hanger. I like the multi-colour effect as it reminds me of childhood and the construction paper garland that we'd make, but I plan to make lots more of this style in a variety of colours. They look lovely and interesting on a lit up tree as the light shines from between the buttons.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLtdVHM76P-Q4czyat9j5Zsledl9SKqp3wQGz2NsAhXmQ8pQl2FgAaErIlGK5NQgEuHDk4sh4pWE5wv3_NfBp14YQZybqruM5xLh5O-cMuOojsb6O8r_fezvej7M0FWdYIMY6TeuSwH7I/s1600/garland+015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLtdVHM76P-Q4czyat9j5Zsledl9SKqp3wQGz2NsAhXmQ8pQl2FgAaErIlGK5NQgEuHDk4sh4pWE5wv3_NfBp14YQZybqruM5xLh5O-cMuOojsb6O8r_fezvej7M0FWdYIMY6TeuSwH7I/s400/garland+015.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Button and Bead Garland</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Not just for ornmanets, buttons are great for garland. I've made up these <a href="http://thehandcraftedchristmas.blogspot.ca/2014/05/button-and-bead-garland.html" target="_blank">Button and Bead Garlands</a> in a variety of colours and I love the effect. Bright white syrofoam balls are strung using a needle and thread alternating with buttons wooden beads and interspersed with #6 seed beads worked in between each. This gives it extra shimer and a nice weight for ideal draping. Super tactile, I love this garland.<br />

Last Christmas I made my Mum a knit fuzzy faux fur <a href="http://thehandcraftedchristmas.blogspot.ca/2014/10/fuzzy-and-festive-knit-christmas-hat.html" target="_blank">Christmas hat</a> which I embellished with crocheted holly and a large red button for the berry. It turned out great and I think the most comments she gets on wearing it is "I love the button". Me too.<br />
<br />
Well that's it for me and buttons at Christmas so far but I currently have some crocheted bunting in the works which I had been planning to embellish with buttons so if I get that sorted in the next two weeks I'll have something else to post over at <a href="http://crimbo-crackers.blogspot.ca/2015/06/challenge-82-buttons.html" target="_blank">Crimbo Crackers Buttons Challenge</a>. Do pop over with me and see what else clever crafters are up to with buttons for the holidays.<br />

<br />
I was looking for a photo to use on this blog today when I realized that the photo/post I was looking for wasn't here - but on one of several other blog sites that I had transitioned from. The yin to my creative ideas seems to be the yang of creative chaos ;) It's a shame I didn't keep one blog going, but I simply must show you here the transition that my little 50 year old Christmas tree - that's travelled the world - recently underwent. Maybe you've got something like this kicking about that you thought was nearly ready for the bin - think again!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Every year I adorn my little tree with it's original ornaments and offer it pride of place, but even I had to admit it was looking a tad threadbare. Right, I thought, 50 years, it's time for a little makeover.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR2lWfQ7191hZLtJ0pjZ-39Ee7Yh0bvkNhO9Cjbegj5zXjxIgDVq3t184A05wsoPHFGvGbF6TDI3T6-Kts6xhHEUYp-UwvV5Imq1uLjFmcH3qqQedSKx47d_uvrpzyIE7Px8Qx2E5rZY8/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR2lWfQ7191hZLtJ0pjZ-39Ee7Yh0bvkNhO9Cjbegj5zXjxIgDVq3t184A05wsoPHFGvGbF6TDI3T6-Kts6xhHEUYp-UwvV5Imq1uLjFmcH3qqQedSKx47d_uvrpzyIE7Px8Qx2E5rZY8/s400/008.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I wanted to keep the structural integrity of the tree, so I cut lenghs of new tinsel for each branch and then wired them on with thin silver wire.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOu0QtwY4pCC3ujtDwy-8nVaI87qQBdB4bBGJz5mqKYz2gJyWx9R6qbxIjmAQVJF-Y_8JpkCyuTSfyaAvzWQwaDy6rWGtZvsPIYZwptsBWn8T1WHwkriTfkzWOsyLQYErhl7kjvurR4KY/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOu0QtwY4pCC3ujtDwy-8nVaI87qQBdB4bBGJz5mqKYz2gJyWx9R6qbxIjmAQVJF-Y_8JpkCyuTSfyaAvzWQwaDy6rWGtZvsPIYZwptsBWn8T1WHwkriTfkzWOsyLQYErhl7kjvurR4KY/s400/010.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I found that the best results for giving the tree it's strength back were to wrap wire tightly the full length of the branch. The tinsel easily pokes out of the wire, so I wrapped very securely.
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPcttG8IdxtBSkQdl3ODC_q6x9pfFkx4dKLILrjpEdIDEWZM-aBgiEUvZ7cdYkkAK1CYENIZPBjBhkBGRG_HDteDh1iQeCRIfo1StfEQ02eX0DmAgjI6eglFaprtItZfupVtiWKQKG3U8/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPcttG8IdxtBSkQdl3ODC_q6x9pfFkx4dKLILrjpEdIDEWZM-aBgiEUvZ7cdYkkAK1CYENIZPBjBhkBGRG_HDteDh1iQeCRIfo1StfEQ02eX0DmAgjI6eglFaprtItZfupVtiWKQKG3U8/s400/024.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Close up of tree with original ornaments</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I did this for each branch separely and then up the 'trunk'of the tree as one. The star was not original and had seen better days so I replaced it with the best I had - until I find something just a little bigger.<br />
<br />
I had a few scraps of tiny bead garland so I added this in red and white and secured the original ornaments more permanently on the tree. I'd hate for them to fall and break, and tempted though I was to make new ornaments with some of my lovely beads, the point of this exercise was to return the tree to it's original magical condition.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjx2j9eSL1f2bRNK9G7BlWJ8PkYa1du8g9aRDKLrAwNxinAO83qNaAsd63bTAnJKMDA-O4p-wLHwNPm9dsI_bsgx5HEOd7UFEQkfUJigopVBjkh8xxmrPWuXXF9UiiP0KZvDMem1vBY68/s1600/2014+mantel+8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjx2j9eSL1f2bRNK9G7BlWJ8PkYa1du8g9aRDKLrAwNxinAO83qNaAsd63bTAnJKMDA-O4p-wLHwNPm9dsI_bsgx5HEOd7UFEQkfUJigopVBjkh8xxmrPWuXXF9UiiP0KZvDMem1vBY68/s400/2014+mantel+8.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This year it went back to it's usual featured position on the mantle, with a new tree skirt as well. I made this in thin crochet cotton like you'd use for doilies, and though the multi-colour choice may seem non-traditional it reminds me very much of some paper garlands and decorations that I LOVED as a child, so it makes sense to me. The border edge is done with faux white yarn which I must say was a little tricky with such a tiny crochet hook - I was glad I didn't have more to do.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlm18J8SBDFEty3A20R9dCvjGfLenImwmSskQ-QrCl2WuzCAkrvpU9pVGN7Aq9Ch7YGWlFzAqjtx5ewBYtB0vK2VMdhakcmHMXUZWr3xWcTQh58Imhcaifto5wFkTvMG2nxzqlzAZqNWE/s1600/restoration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlm18J8SBDFEty3A20R9dCvjGfLenImwmSskQ-QrCl2WuzCAkrvpU9pVGN7Aq9Ch7YGWlFzAqjtx5ewBYtB0vK2VMdhakcmHMXUZWr3xWcTQh58Imhcaifto5wFkTvMG2nxzqlzAZqNWE/s400/restoration.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I love my little tree. I've always loved my little tree. But now people can see it a little more like I've always envisioned her. Magical!

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGHIvNrpFbscdWxOhE8NSxWHjzOl_q6f-qyMflmnmN5nQh09mF15XcEfR2AnTJ1-dCdAE3k_9pZVVWHu374ct-AS3Ao1isC0HOm39Sc6N041iJgCbZC5_Dbw6d-VL1rdDM9c9LZFqJ600/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGHIvNrpFbscdWxOhE8NSxWHjzOl_q6f-qyMflmnmN5nQh09mF15XcEfR2AnTJ1-dCdAE3k_9pZVVWHu374ct-AS3Ao1isC0HOm39Sc6N041iJgCbZC5_Dbw6d-VL1rdDM9c9LZFqJ600/s400/013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Getting back into the crafting groove, and trying more than anything to have a clear out of craft supplies, I've upcycled some festive gift tags for Christmas. I found some super cute gift tags at the dollar store last season and thought that they would make wonderful embellishments. Originally a mini-card with a little envelope, I've cut the backs off and adhered the bright graphic images to a 2" scalloped square which I've die cut in matching colours.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
This is my process in case it's any inspiration to you. You can cut great images by recycling your old cards, cutting up gift bags, all sorts of things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjestI1sU1ER0hci9tCEj9YMjlJhdagY9NGz0KZjHhetVsL2t7PGwkiAiOpeRHxR7X90leFcu-zM2-p2xso0Drp8s7sj_4jjzYl3g9KwZLf9SiTY7SUkKjX5zRP4RqbRPx55revM6VE0QY/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjestI1sU1ER0hci9tCEj9YMjlJhdagY9NGz0KZjHhetVsL2t7PGwkiAiOpeRHxR7X90leFcu-zM2-p2xso0Drp8s7sj_4jjzYl3g9KwZLf9SiTY7SUkKjX5zRP4RqbRPx55revM6VE0QY/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've selected a background card stock to suit the embellishment image - Santa, and then added a strip of white card stock.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvqbd-XLFJe-Qhia1iFT9SmE5cJU7Q0acx1GV1fHPztp_PnBUhCrwX5EBdgfjM1hyphenhyphenkiA9jgbJ0acM48zn7q5pA4DVUQ52Pv7z9VlfOf1jNATF7EbeZWsYZFkqKg8hwuupaWsV0ViLegcY/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvqbd-XLFJe-Qhia1iFT9SmE5cJU7Q0acx1GV1fHPztp_PnBUhCrwX5EBdgfjM1hyphenhyphenkiA9jgbJ0acM48zn7q5pA4DVUQ52Pv7z9VlfOf1jNATF7EbeZWsYZFkqKg8hwuupaWsV0ViLegcY/s400/007.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a great way to make the colours pop if you're using washi tape, or other decorative tapes, and for the best results wrap around the card stock so you have a nicely finished edge. Once I've done this I adhere the card stock with tape to a super sturdy 100lb card stock, but the normal 65lb would work fine as well. You don't want a gift tag to be too flimsy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwQa8Wa92X9vp6aWuhoxnh45Lc7CCmrYKt46DMwGwMlWiH1lW_-eU6doFcapZc9lxRZqmA32sbWYh7tBfthnw8kc85bBk7sWZwCMd7NTQj082AXvAhJpt7uTES4D4wqzX7H59BVqXv21k/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwQa8Wa92X9vp6aWuhoxnh45Lc7CCmrYKt46DMwGwMlWiH1lW_-eU6doFcapZc9lxRZqmA32sbWYh7tBfthnw8kc85bBk7sWZwCMd7NTQj082AXvAhJpt7uTES4D4wqzX7H59BVqXv21k/s400/008.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I liked the jolliness of putting Santa a little askew, so in this version I've placed on an angle overlapping the candy cane stripe tape. For balance, a large bright white die cut on the bottom right pulls it all together. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiRGi9C6-JET9kV_cU5KpeGTn6c0IllryHADkVZnurjkhNQUZJ6mw8grHrSb4_Jn7fu8NAqU-qJUoMMX54FnuGK2sMFLG9gVJlfBq3sgsPtZZZzRmvHxCMwxoRi-6wFxEfKv8NotoDycA/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiRGi9C6-JET9kV_cU5KpeGTn6c0IllryHADkVZnurjkhNQUZJ6mw8grHrSb4_Jn7fu8NAqU-qJUoMMX54FnuGK2sMFLG9gVJlfBq3sgsPtZZZzRmvHxCMwxoRi-6wFxEfKv8NotoDycA/s400/009.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Because I'm not sure it's possible to make something without a little bling, a nice large silver gem in the center of the snowflake gives the whole thing a lovely effect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpGIFTHWbPLTZT9zeax-bMKMRTN-8YtnALlJgaPtu3JWmwmDFLx75yowMqAedbLBoVi8a7JNLQSouMK9MIUa_mQSleGzkyepLImB_f_VtL3vmPmhV4yGF1ATU_Ii-9d82xAnwFs7mf2F8/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpGIFTHWbPLTZT9zeax-bMKMRTN-8YtnALlJgaPtu3JWmwmDFLx75yowMqAedbLBoVi8a7JNLQSouMK9MIUa_mQSleGzkyepLImB_f_VtL3vmPmhV4yGF1ATU_Ii-9d82xAnwFs7mf2F8/s400/010.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Punch a hole and add something to tie the gift tag on to the gift - in this case I've used Rafia as it's my new fave, but you could use butcher's twine, string, embroidery floss, wool .. it all works.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYW4Ah4tT4r2Q8gS0udS8mwbR2BWrFQH1yBVQi4xIRJPBmL9JvnMYsLvQejfjWb8_JoJJI7J1RUoUiGhIUc9Nbw8GT5ToUajgQ-PWy5QcId0bDmyDUCOc2GOgdIACeNrQsIgh9lwY80lM/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYW4Ah4tT4r2Q8gS0udS8mwbR2BWrFQH1yBVQi4xIRJPBmL9JvnMYsLvQejfjWb8_JoJJI7J1RUoUiGhIUc9Nbw8GT5ToUajgQ-PWy5QcId0bDmyDUCOc2GOgdIACeNrQsIgh9lwY80lM/s400/014.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've packaged them up 2 in a bag, added a bright red bag topper, another snowflake, and yup, more bling with another gem. I think they'll be very cute for craft shows.<br />

<br />
I, like many before me, have just had to google the spelling for a word that may not in fact exist. I use it all the time - as I do it all the time - but I didn`t have a clue how to spell "juj?" it up. I'm still not certain it is an actual word but I have certainly chosen my favourite spelling. Tszuj. What a great word. Scrabble, anyone?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Anyway, the reason I was searching for this word was to show you an idea for tszujing up a basic Christmas ornament.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAS67nKYFUW7Yb6AvUOWbcuCkQjkqKB4bJk-JqkYnvA9nx9fUuiMXORMQimqoDILlJfjONY93kfgrmNtFR5ySqIMcUNujkZalbmuc_BKbVyWx7lAhE57CRE0I1igu13CE26XJGykwzFX4/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAS67nKYFUW7Yb6AvUOWbcuCkQjkqKB4bJk-JqkYnvA9nx9fUuiMXORMQimqoDILlJfjONY93kfgrmNtFR5ySqIMcUNujkZalbmuc_BKbVyWx7lAhE57CRE0I1igu13CE26XJGykwzFX4/s400/007.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a pretty glitter ball ornament that I picked up at the Dollar Store. I did, for the record, leave some colours behind, but not very many. Glitter. Must have. I've beaded the ball on to an ornament hanger using tiny #10 and larger #6 seed beads to hold the ball securely, and for accent up the hanger. I've also added a little pearl in a co-ordinating colour. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

It looks prettier just with the beaded hanger, but for the last touch I've added some ribbon. The translucent ribbon works perfectly and adds a little more shimmer. Initially, I was adding the bows with a more fiddly wire method but after some experimenting I find the best way is the simple way. After doing the beaded hanger I just tie on the ribbon. Get it nice and tight and create a knot, and then tie into a pretty bow and trim if necessary.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Well, gosh it's been a while. Spring is springing forth (finally, it seems this year!) and thoughts of Christmas may be nowhere near to mind for most, but around here it never truly stops.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
With spring cleaning comes re-organization and it's time for me to review the things I'm making and get them photographed for posting on Etsy. I figure if I start slow and steady, I'll get there right?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXcxDLAXXwAexgDWBvMPUIur8ZwXsVNUlwo4BBwjoS1XJeArs3NfYd2CJuED5rXRxfWAL0azBhb_LK0Ywf3xQ96QPOfbsoN6IWBQjWhoxEKDimTNUDwYcy34c_3R6Ah8P1npYfIL9mCvA/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXcxDLAXXwAexgDWBvMPUIur8ZwXsVNUlwo4BBwjoS1XJeArs3NfYd2CJuED5rXRxfWAL0azBhb_LK0Ywf3xQ96QPOfbsoN6IWBQjWhoxEKDimTNUDwYcy34c_3R6Ah8P1npYfIL9mCvA/s400/036.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Today's mission ... more crocheted bead garland. Finding this metallic faux fur yarn has really been terrific. Having experimented with many variations this, for me, is the perfect choice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVAv3WdvUSbdbEOWXHj1zodxlwWfGllA7OZqLUeLQZEREJV7iCf0GKjQWwDK-lEMqMKA89Sv2hXBbEMuAgVXktu9_xTe5SAHHxPiAE57yQax2YrJWh06PIgIQoNA17umBCbScfZMDGAQI/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVAv3WdvUSbdbEOWXHj1zodxlwWfGllA7OZqLUeLQZEREJV7iCf0GKjQWwDK-lEMqMKA89Sv2hXBbEMuAgVXktu9_xTe5SAHHxPiAE57yQax2YrJWh06PIgIQoNA17umBCbScfZMDGAQI/s400/027.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The only headache can be working with this type of yarn if you are not used to it as it is difficult to see stitches, but as most of my house is crocheted in faux fur yarns this is not a problem for me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-qc8LmRdC_U_S8Q_ogQ7O4ASijsn8dOtWKSngiqoybLWYpC6jq86ZNV8dG3q92BCrPmgNL191GYyG5veXxiJ332IeqZAtfgjzJTtLZZdeBoTpse9e1RF713cClQF5LX_3oBWTgqzzBg/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-qc8LmRdC_U_S8Q_ogQ7O4ASijsn8dOtWKSngiqoybLWYpC6jq86ZNV8dG3q92BCrPmgNL191GYyG5veXxiJ332IeqZAtfgjzJTtLZZdeBoTpse9e1RF713cClQF5LX_3oBWTgqzzBg/s400/022.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's a simple construct crocheting between the strung beaded garland, which in this case is with oval beads - chain 2 or 3 (depending on your hook size and tension) and single crochet between each bead. Work from one end to the other, finish off your ends and you are done. Beaded garland meets tinsel in this lovely combo garland.<br />
<br />
You'll be all set to deck those halls!MagicalJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13411091079027432099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3301109282790072374.post-78366680026673689962015-01-10T20:50:00.000-08:002015-06-03T13:55:21.781-07:00Valentine's LOVE Earrings<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/217793008/love-and-hearts-earrings-silver-and-pale?ref=shop_home_active_4" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5jEaZTSTZtsYNt59611pJ_VkJKhaJ0YUe2TRSPwpcJ3HcuN8yZA9qWprk19NQ5jmsv0kv6_MaTeTEH-eWTyNG5U2opaJOKwkEdIY0CpxghD9iG4eJ73efn0OV2nOdGP0_qtkaII82HQk/s1600/010.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm carrying on with the Valentine's Day projects, still with beads, still with earrings, but this time focusing on these fun "LOVE" charms. For the first style I went with a double dangle pairing the LOVE charms with little heart charms. The main beads are pink miracle beads (which are so much prettier than I seem to be able to photograph), faceted rondelles and tiny bi-cones.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/217902814/love-earrings-for-valentines-day-silver?ref=shop_home_active_3" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXejzOfY-mK1C5-3QnRoS4b8-AuKwZkoOfNVdNqFJQvUZEQHvL4jLoOshouQi6AIFBQ4f85eRcCgAOB4gwQLiJxunvLayK_P9huWNigXPRodHf0_HNMiqUep_GuehC5O05TRxsX4NsEf4/s1600/033.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Another version is a little more simple with a shorter dangle. I love these glass confetti beads with swirls of colour, I think they're really lovely - beautiful deep colours and a little different from every angle. The beads and charms are so pretty I've just kept it simple with silver and crystal clear accent beads. I think they make a very pretty summer earring. Shame I don't wear earrings, I really do enjoy making them.<br />

<br />
After a deplorable lack of Christmas updates over the last few weeks (best laid plans and the usual chaos) I'm moving on and starting to work up some things for the next holiday theme - Valentine's Day.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL4SmreemSDMkDwUP0b1RAtxiGFhRZ6kFmxkxyuhJtdqmi2Z0gqeJmqP3oeihdK4jiLoG-gd7iQtYhK2HTk5OqzFiBjy4Azg_G1vfpoYpiSQxwowtFoZ6jUn_0dcyZAGdnWaTj0CelsRQ/s1600/086.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL4SmreemSDMkDwUP0b1RAtxiGFhRZ6kFmxkxyuhJtdqmi2Z0gqeJmqP3oeihdK4jiLoG-gd7iQtYhK2HTk5OqzFiBjy4Azg_G1vfpoYpiSQxwowtFoZ6jUn_0dcyZAGdnWaTj0CelsRQ/s1600/086.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm working up these adorable acrylic heart pendants into earrings. The shape is really sweet, they have a lovely sheen, and the paint squiqqle effect makes them fun and funky. I think they pair perfectly with the dark multi-coloured seed beads and deep black faceted glass beads that are reminiscent of jet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO-aipcwOof0Pk2N__xWBDMlWcCMRFrz8YWuDydLgKxYaoPquVtTY8PoHNse86hjpnD5Q4Fnqro5uZ7Iflpd0lSoxjISXhI35c-OIaOS6GQ50692FkxDHkj9fyDgOSGlsQOWJZDmoau5Q/s1600/101.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO-aipcwOof0Pk2N__xWBDMlWcCMRFrz8YWuDydLgKxYaoPquVtTY8PoHNse86hjpnD5Q4Fnqro5uZ7Iflpd0lSoxjISXhI35c-OIaOS6GQ50692FkxDHkj9fyDgOSGlsQOWJZDmoau5Q/s1600/101.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've worked them up into a variety of colours, all the same style as I'm very happy with it. They're super light and something a little different.MagicalJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13411091079027432099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3301109282790072374.post-69349885794520265532014-12-11T07:07:00.000-08:002015-01-10T21:15:52.474-08:00Memory Lane Christmas Decorations<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Have you finished your Christmas decorating? Have you started? I've had a good start, it's mostly done, but near the end I was taken away from decorating for things like shopping, wrapping, writing cards, and heaps and heaps of cooking and baking. With family coming this week-end, it's time to finish up those last few boxes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>This year, bendy Santa and Jack Frost are the stars the show. Mum and Dad gifted them to me this year so it's the first time they've adorned one of the trees in my house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0HpuupPjhrmxLNmDyv58e9Jouh7Da_Covgh_vv0_gTH32aUKPAgt2TuLZ2qZNtIQZBvBTGvhQfeM7-BK23EoysQPUyBBekgTY8uP2Pz-bP_S5wvxB2PrxZL24UJF_c3bmPjYx6k3DmRw/s1600/jack+frost+and+santa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0HpuupPjhrmxLNmDyv58e9Jouh7Da_Covgh_vv0_gTH32aUKPAgt2TuLZ2qZNtIQZBvBTGvhQfeM7-BK23EoysQPUyBBekgTY8uP2Pz-bP_S5wvxB2PrxZL24UJF_c3bmPjYx6k3DmRw/s1600/jack+frost+and+santa.jpg" height="276" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Not the first Christmas for these fellas though - not by a long shot. These adorable Christmas ornaments are a good 50 years old! Take a look at this then and now. That's me admiring our Christmas tree circa 1965. Jack Frost and Santa are just a few years old there. In the photo on the right, they've settled in well to their new home.<br />
<br />
Jack Frost can do a bit of a Linda Blair impersonation these days, but other than that, they're hardly the worse for wear. I just love the memory lane visit when the decorations come out.<br />

<br />
We all know that Santa works hard on Christmas Eve, but we must not forget about the reindeer - they have a very busy night indeed flying Santa, his sleigh, and all those presents around the world. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>To celebrate Rudolph and his reindeer friends, here is the first installment of fun Christmas ideas with a reindeer theme - Reindeer Cookies (or biscuits across the pond).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIqZm3z3A9lZ19j9OmoM2Gmb3zyUwHzp-nwF2iZtSX-VNyRI3qqhISryAEJXoB_kmkrDHqeMUKCSFZ2IvUWESDvl2uUSyFmk_5XMjZMoHPIvywLe0hkLVl_AlZv-zW3nYm5P_duszutyQ/s1600/reindeer+cookies+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIqZm3z3A9lZ19j9OmoM2Gmb3zyUwHzp-nwF2iZtSX-VNyRI3qqhISryAEJXoB_kmkrDHqeMUKCSFZ2IvUWESDvl2uUSyFmk_5XMjZMoHPIvywLe0hkLVl_AlZv-zW3nYm5P_duszutyQ/s400/reindeer+cookies+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is an absolutely brilliant idea. A gingerbread man cookie-cutter used upside down is the perfect base for a magical reindeer cookie.<br />
<br />
Use your favourite cut biscuit recipe and decorate with icing and bits in your own creative way for a super fun Christmas reindeer themed treat. You can find the for royal icing at <a href="http://megannskitchen.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/royal-recipe.html" target="_blank">Megan's kitchen</a> (photo left) and see more decorating variations on my <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/hohoholiday/reindeer/" target="_blank">Reindeer pinterest board</a>.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
Follow this step-by-step YouTube tutorial from jellybeantrail to make this beautifully decorated version.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinHxMuu9GrUMAx2X4Gru2u1RM0GWfJB01QcoUYQl4VTOU0h6LMgVnf8Q-KhMhEEH4Diqqz4qu4BrNGzp_ATiuVSktw1P-eSbFQcnh6IOGaicCY9W1ilPgCNKMTlnfuGpXz3LBawGCPJ-c/s1600/reindeer+oreo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinHxMuu9GrUMAx2X4Gru2u1RM0GWfJB01QcoUYQl4VTOU0h6LMgVnf8Q-KhMhEEH4Diqqz4qu4BrNGzp_ATiuVSktw1P-eSbFQcnh6IOGaicCY9W1ilPgCNKMTlnfuGpXz3LBawGCPJ-c/s400/reindeer+oreo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Another cute reindeer themed cookie idea - using store bought cookies are reindeer oreo pops.
The <a href="http://www.ohnuts.com/blog/reindeer-oreo-cookie-pops" target="_blank">Oh Nuts! Sweet and Crunchy Blog</a> has a wonderful post with the recipe and step by step instructions with lovely photos.<br />

<br />
And be sure to visit <a href="http://andeverythingsweet.blogspot.ca/2011/12/reindeer-party.html" target="_blank">And Everything Sweet blog</a>'s post on a Reindeer Party for little girls that featured these lovely
reindeer pops and other fabulous ideas. Add a little ribbon and cello wrap and you have a cute sweet treat gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/recipe/ss_RU215287.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/recipe/ss_RU215287.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The same concept works with Nutter Butter cookies if you have them available. They have a super shape for a reindeer face - and chocolate and peanut butter is always a winner. The <a href="http://sparklesforumchristmaschallenge.blogspot.ca/2014/11/ch46-christmas-candy.html" target="_blank">Sparkles Christmas Challenge</a> is a multi-craft challenge blog, which is great for me as I so rarely seem to find the time to get to the Christmas card and gift tag ideas rolling around in my mind. Primarily, it's a space thing, as I work my way through the shiny beads.

This week, the theme is Christmas Candy, which works out perfectly for a new beaded ornament hook design I've been playing with. I had been wondering what to do with these candy button/beads and they work out perfectly here. They will catch the light and throw sparkle above the ornaments when hanging on the Christmas tree. Crystal clear Christmas candy beaded ornament hangers in winter white and gold - just the thing for cupcake and candy ornaments!<br />

For photos of Christmas at our house, check out my new <a href="http://christmasismagical.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">dynamic photo blog</a> - another job on the go before this years' decorating begins. Or to see my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/ChristmasisMagical/search?search_query=hooks" target="_blank">ornament hooks on Etsy</a> - there are LOTS of styles.<br />
